Getting Started
01 · Setup & RequirementsIs Gradatimo really free?
Yes. Gradatimo is free to download and use for personal, educational, professional, and commercial purposes—with no subscriptions, trial timers, or per-seat fees.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Gradatimo runs locally on your computer without requiring a user account, cloud sign-in, or online workspace.
Which operating systems are supported?
Gradatimo is built natively for macOS and Windows. In the current private beta, verified platform targets are macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or newer on Apple Silicon (arm64) and Windows 10 (version 1809) or newer on 64-bit Intel/AMD processors (x64). Signed installer packages and SHA-256 verification checksums are available on the Download page.
Does Gradatimo require an internet connection?
Core authoring—including capturing screenshots, editing annotations, organizing lessons, and exporting all five publication formats (PDF guides, standalone HTML, multi-lesson websites with search, animated HTML presentations, and MP4 videos) locally—functions 100% offline on your computer. An internet connection is only needed for downloading the application installer, opening external web links referenced in a tutorial, or uploading your finished publications to web hosting.
Creating and Publishing
02 · Authoring & FormatsHow does automatic pre-click capture work?
When recording with Shift + Click, Gradatimo captures the screen state immediately before your click takes effect and places a numbered marker at the click location—preserving menus, dropdown lists, and dialogs before they close or change.
How does semantic UI formatting work?
In the Step Instructions editor, wrapping control names in simple brackets or clicking the formatting toolbar buttons—[Button] for buttons, {Option ▾} for dropdowns, <Key> for keyboard shortcuts, ▸ for menu paths, and `Field` for input values—visually distinguishes interface controls from surrounding prose in both the live preview and published guides.
What is the difference between Standalone HTML guides and Complete instructional websites?
A Standalone HTML guide exports as a single self-contained .html file that is easy to email, store on a shared drive, or open offline in any web browser. A Complete instructional website exports an organized multi-lesson web structure with lesson navigation and a downloads/ folder for attached starter files—ideal for hosting on your own domain, school LMS, or intranet.
Can someone view my published tutorial without installing Gradatimo?
Yes. Readers never need Gradatimo installed to view your published work: exported PDFs open in any standard PDF viewer, standalone HTML guides and multi-lesson websites open in any modern web browser, animated presentations run directly in the browser, and MP4 videos play in any media player or video portal.
Can I move a .gradatimo project between computers?
Yes. A .gradatimo file is a self-contained portable project document storing your lessons, steps, screenshots, annotations, and attachments. You can copy it to another computer, store it on an external drive, or include it in your backups to continue editing later.
What happens to attached files when exporting?
External web links (http:// or https://) attached to steps are included as clickable links in both PDF and HTML/website exports. Local file attachments are stored in your .gradatimo project and bundled as downloadable files when exporting to HTML or a multi-lesson instructional website.
Can I import my own photos and illustrations?
Yes. You can import existing screenshots, camera photographs, or diagrams into any step—making Gradatimo useful for documenting physical crafts, studio processes, and hardware procedures alongside software workflows.
Are animated tutorials, narration, and MP4 video exports available?
Yes! In addition to PDF guides, standalone HTML guides, and multi-lesson websites, the Gradatimo beta includes animated HTML presentations with interactive playback controls, per-step spoken voiceover narration, and instructional MP4 video export.
Privacy, Licensing, and Support
03 · Ownership & PoliciesDoes Gradatimo upload screenshots?
No. Gradatimo is local-first: captured screenshots, imported images, and .gradatimo project files remain on your local storage unless you choose to export and share or upload them yourself.
What is the difference between Redact and Permanent Mask?
Redact places an adjustable visual overlay over a region while keeping the underlying image intact for later editing. Permanent Mask irreversibly replaces the selected pixels in the source image inside your .gradatimo project and updates derived project images (such as thumbnails, crops, and magnified insets) from the sanitized source. Note that applying a permanent mask does not automatically modify PDFs, HTML files, external backups, or copies you have already exported and distributed outside the project.
Can I use Gradatimo commercially?
Yes. Gradatimo is free for commercial, professional, educational, and personal use. You retain ownership of the original instructional materials you create and may distribute or sell your published guides without royalties, subject to the software license terms and retaining the small “Made with Gradatimo” attribution on generated publications.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Visit the Feedback & Support page to use the structured report composer. You can enter your application version, operating system, steps to reproduce, expected behavior, and actual behavior, then copy the formatted report or save it as a .txt file.
